|Literal English||Great Monkey|
The Great Ape (大猿, Ōzaru; lit, "Great Monkey") transformation is a transformation inborn to all Saiyans in the Saiyan race.
Whenever a Saiyan is exposed to the Blutz Waves of a full moon, or is able to use the Power Ball technique, the Blutz Waves are stored in their tail, allowing them to transform into the Great Ape state. In this form, they grow to about the size of a large skyscraper. Those Saiyans without their battle armor lose their clothes during this process.
In this form, the Saiyan's power level is increased by ten times and they gain dramatic increases in speed and strength. An untrained Saiyan will lose their consciousness in this form, making them nothing more than primal apes until they revert back. However, trained Saiyans can retain control of themselves in this form and even learn to speak through the Great Ape form.
If the moon used to initiate this transformation is destroyed or vanishes from the Saiyan's sight, the transformation regresses. Furthermore, if a Saiyan has his or her tail cut off while in this form, they will also lose their transformed state. Once back in their humanoid form, a Saiyan is left physically exhausted due to this transformation. Without practice, a Saiyan can actually lose consciousness after returning to normal.
Golden Great Ape Edit
- Main article: Super Saiyan
Those Super Saiyans that have their tails can also transform into Super Saiyan while in their Great Ape state. This state is known as the Golden Great Ape (黄金大猿, Ōgon Ōzaru; lit. "Golden Great Monkey"). This form simply applies the benefits of the Super Saiyan transformation to the Great Ape transformation, making the latter more powerful and more formidable to deal with in battle.
It seems that this particular form of Great Ape does not physically change in appearance when the user enters Super Saiyans 2 and 3, only the energy output and aura change. It is unknown why this occurs.
- The transformation is similar to how werewolves transform at the full moon.
